Mekides Mezgebu President, NSBE Boston | Biomedical Engineer, IMRIS Mekides Mezgebu is a visionary leader and passionate advocate for equity in STEM, currently serving as President of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Boston Professionals. With a strong foundation in engineering and a deep commitment to building inclusive ecosystems, Mekides is dedicated to empowering Black professionals and expanding access to STEM education and careers. As President, she leads strategic initiatives that center youth STEM engagement, collegiate support, and professional development—while cultivating impactful corporate partnerships that amplify NSBE Boston’s mission. Under her leadership, the chapter has deepened its influence through high-visibility collaborations and purpose-driven programming that celebrates Black excellence and innovation. A proud Cambridge native, born in Ethiopia, Mekides studied Biomedical Engineering at UMass Dartmouth and currently works in the medical device industry at IMRIS, where she combines neurosurgical technical acumen with a people-first approach to innovation, to support life-saving innovation. She also serves as a Museum of Science Innovator, advising the museum on strategies to make science more inclusive and accessible. Her ability to bridge communities and foster inclusive dialogue has led to speaking engagements and keynote appearances at events, where she continues to champion for equity, inclusion, and diverse representation across STEM.
